Our Membership

Welcome to the Society of Vintage Characters!

We look forward to getting to know you and we hope you can enjoy many Society events.

The Society provides most of our events for free to our membership.  In order to pay for this, we work a casino weekend every other year.  This means that our events fall under the regulations of the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Control Board (AGLC).

Please note that our events take months of careful planning and work by various people.

Because of all this, and due to the AGLC regulations, the Society has the following guidelines for our members.

Events

Many Society events include a meal or snack before, during, or after the event.  The meal and any non-alcoholic beverages (tea, coffee, pop) will be paid for by the Society.  However, unless otherwise stated, the Society will not pay for any alcoholic beverages.  The members will have to each pay for their own alcoholic drinks.

Members must attend and participate in the event in order to enjoy the free meal after the event.  If a member does not attend or participate in the event, they are welcome to come for the meal, however it will then not be paid for by Vintage Characters.

Each event will be posted on the website and you will receive emails giving you the opportunity to sign up to attend the event.  Each posting will list a date by which you must cancel if you can’t attend the event after signing up. You may cancel thru the website up until this date. Cancellations after this date should be made directly to the event host.

Once you sign up for an event you will receive an email before the event confirming your registration.

If you sign up for the event and do not attend, you will be required to pay the Society the cost of the event ticket/entrance fee, unless (for instance) you are sick or have a family emergency.

The Board of Directors of the Society will review the circumstances of cancellations at their next scheduled meeting and may assess a cost associated with the cancellation.

Charitable Giving

The Society of Vintage Characters has, for several years, made financial contributions to various charities according to AGLC Charitable Giving Guidelines.

We welcome members’ input for suggestions for other charities other than the above mentioned that we can support.

By-Laws etc.

If you wish to know more, the Society’s bylaws and procedures are available for review on the website under the About tab – sub tab Governance.  Our bylaws include the following paragraph:

All members are expected to exercise diligence and make sound judgements in deciding which events to attend.  All members should take into consideration their health and physical limitations.
